College/Career Preparation

At St. Anthony High School, we strive to provide an aggressive and intensive college preparation program for each student. Unlike other schools, St. Anthony High School begins this plan in the student’s freshman year and actively assists each student and family as they prepare for college.

 

Highlights of our program:

  • Students will meet a minimum of two times per year with a College Counselor
  • Three full time counselors are on staff
  • Proactive approach with students/families, not waiting for students to come to us
  • Parent Financial Aid, Scholarship and College Workshops

 

Freshman Year

  • Tour of College/Career Center
  • College and career inventory and assessment of student interests
  • Begin college resume and portfolio
  • Start California State University Mentor Program
  • Introduction to Naviance Student*
  • PSAT 8/9
    • Gives students practice for a sometimes intimidating SAT/ACT Test
    • Enrolls students into college databases that enable them to receive college information early in their high school career
    • Means of ongoing assessment and progress at SAHS Freshman year transcript evaluation with scheduled counseling appointment and parents invited to attend

 

Sophomore Year

  • Freshman year transcript evaluation with scheduled counseling appointment and parents invited to attend
  • PSAT test and score evaluation
  • Update CSU Mentor Planner
  • Update college resume and portfolio via Naviance Student*
  • Financial aid planning specifically for sophomore parents
  • SAT/PSAT prep through Shmoop**

 

Junior Year

  • Sophomore year transcript evaluation
  • PSAT test and score evaluation (fall)
  • Update CSU Mentor Planner
  • Update college resume and portfolio via Naviance Student*
  • Build college interest files via Naviance Student*
  • Financial aid planning and parent financial aid night specifically for junior parents
  • SAT/PSAT prep through Shmoop**


Senior Year

  • Junior year transcript evaluation
  • Application workshops from UC and CSU
  • Update CSU Mentor Planner
  • Update college resume and portfolio and request letters of recommendation via Naviance Student*
  • Financial aid planning and parent financial aid night specifically for seniors
  • SAT prep through Shmoop**


Naviance Student 
Family Connection by Naviance Student is a web-based planning and advising system that will help students and parents research careers and majors as well as find colleges that offer that major. It will allow students and parents to keep track of test scores, activities, and awards, as well as help complete college applications and requirements.
