SAHS Cross Country Kicks Off Season

The Saints CC teams opened the season with the annual trip to the Woodbridge Invitational Meet held at Costa Mesa H.S. The meet draws thousands of teams from CA and AZ and is run over two days with varying levels of competition. SA boys and girls competed in the Novice Division run on Friday afternoon in 90 plus degree temps.

This year’s CC teams comprise 8 girls of which 5 are newcomers. The boys’ team has 23 and 16 of those are new to the sport. Thus “Novice” was a perfect fit for our team. 14 of the 27 runners in the meet exceeded their personal best time.

The girls competed among a total of 396 in their race. SA finished as follows: #29-24:21 Nico Bencitio (11), #61-25:26 Caitlin Fanning (10), #65-25:33 Kimberly Gomez (11), #67-25:34 Kate Phair (9), #122-26:57 Cori Teague (10), #128-27:01 Jharissa Cabasal (11), #173-27:43 Hannah Large (10). Alondra Turcios (11) was unable to run due to illness.

The boys competition totaled 276 runners. SA finished as follows: #4-18:32 Thomas Stolpe (9), #8-18:49 Gereme Viray (11), #12-18:59 Aldrin Lupisan (12), #25-20:21 Vaughan Edgley (11), #28-20:34 Bryan Zamora (9), #42-21:04 Ollin Santa Cruz (10), #43-21:08 Ralphy Bravo (10), #44-21:12 Zach Gann (12), #58-21:52 Jackson Wright (10), #70-22:19 Khalil Thomas (10), #85-22:42 Jonathan Rugeroni, #95-22:56 Anthony Arellano (9), #106-23:06 Derrick Cody, #132-23:48 Ariel Montana (11), #150-24:35 Andre Salas (9), #151-24:36 Alex Grimm (9), #163-24:53 Cris Lopez (11), #222-26:41 Roger Cabrera (9) and #240-27:33 Danny Ramos. Brian Rodriguez, Derian Garcia, Tyler Fisher and Abraham Gonzalez were not able to participate.

We have some very young talent on both teams this year. As we develop we certainly have the potential to become better as the season progresses. Please take a moment and view the CC calendar on our SAHS website. This team is young and exciting to watch and we welcome students, parents/guardians and families to come on out and enjoy our meets.
