Saints go to the wire!

The Saints pulled out an exciting win in the 2009 home opener against the Downey Calvary Chapel Grizzlies. A large and spirited crowd, boosted by our new drum line and an exciting game made for a very satisfying season opener... and there's no place like home to do it.

Thanks to a special order by one hungry principal and a quick response by Anna Nuno and her team of parent volunteers, the snack shack turned out tri tip sandwiches along with freshly made smoothies for only $5. That was in addition to the usual array of offerings.

Our cheer squad kept the crowd entertained throughout the night in their new uniforms. The new drum line was loud and looked great in their new band attire. It was the usual gathering of Saints as the stands were filled with alumni from as far back as the 40's, families, friends, parents, boosters, faculty/staff and our highly spirited students. It was a great night to be a Saint!

The Fighting Saints scored what appeared to be the winning TD late in the 4th quarter to take a 23-20 lead. The Grizzlies ran the kickoff back for a TD and suddenly it was 27-23 with little time left. But the Saints were not to be denied... with 2:19 left in the game SA scored to take a hard fought 29-27 lead and the win.
