This Spanish course will provide practice in comprehension, speaking,oral reading and writing. Language structures appropriate to this level are covered and correct pronunciation and intonation are developed. The course develops appreciation of the culture, customs,geography, history, and traditions of Spanish speaking people throughout the world.
 
Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Students will formulate ideas orally at a medium beginning level.
2. Students will formulate ideas in writing at a medium beginning level.
3. Students will demonstrate reading comprehension at a medium beginning level.
4. Students will demonstrate aural comprehension at a medium beginning level.

Spiritually Enriched
The World Language Department primarily supports the following Expected School-Wide Learning Results that meet the National Standards(CA Standards). Spiritually students begin class with Spanish prayer which shows the knowledge of the Catholic faith. The class is then read an excerpt from the bible which teaches the understanding of Gospel values in their Daily lives.
 
Academically Ready
Students communicate in Spanish by reading and writing about differentLatin American countries.  They do guided reading questions, learn capitals and do oral presentations on the countries being studied.This prepares them with the knowledge that they need when they encounter these similar countries in literature, art or social studies. 
 
Intellectually Equipped
Students reading, analyzing and comprehending about Spanish speaking countries develops the student’s knowledge about social, national, and global issues.
 
Naturally Expressive
Students speak, read, write and understand a language other than English. Students do translations and memorize dialogues in Spanish where they show their interpersonal relations in a variety of rolesand settings.
 
Technologically Prepared
The department currently purchased new editions of ¡Buen Viaje!. Students are able to go online and do activities that enrich their learning by doing activities according to each chapter. Students are shown power point presentations with authors, grammar, and countries that help them understand the content more efficiently. The current technological methods and programs for research and academic work will provide the students with the ability to synthesize the information with technological media.
 
Socially Conscious
Students are respectful of diversity and tolerance for differences. Reading and learning history and vocabulary from various Latin American countries makes them aware of cultural differences.They learn how one word can have many different meanings in different Latin American countries and students learn how to apply it appropriately.
