SAHS students volunteer at Operation Teddy Bear

5 members of our SAHS President’s Ambassadors program volunteered their time after school on Oct 27 for Operation Teddy Bear. The Volunteer Center in Torrance that serves the Long Beach, South Bay and Harbor communities annually runs a program whereby 15 different items are placed in backpacks. This is done production line style as the overall program assembles 5,600 total backpacks for distribution. They are then distributed to 1st graders in areas where children are underprivileged and are likely never to own something of this nature. All of the bags' contents promote enjoyment in learning. The backpacks are delivered around Thanksgiving and Christmas. "For some of these children this will be the highlight of their holiday season," commented Jennie Haley, the program’s onsite coordinator.

We are very proud of our 5 students: Dolan Kay, Nick Gerard, Maryjean Greitl, Cameron Platt and Lauren Siaumau who participated in the assembly line and put together 300 of the backpacks in just over an hour. These students will also be invited to help in the delivery which will be in December, just prior to Christmas. They represented SAHS in the best of ways… service to others!
