Spiritually Conscious:

  • Raise and explore questions about faith and spirituality through reading and writing.
  • Compare and find correlations in literature with the Christian Gospel.
  • Explain how religions and spirituality connects to or inspires themes in literature.
  • Recognize historical/religious events and their implications in literature.

Academically ready:

  • Reading analyzing and comprehending various literary texts.
  • Develop essay responses that include clear thesis statements and supporting evidence.
  • Critique and respond to arguments made by others.
  • Evaluate diverse primary materials such as autobiographies, first person narratives, poetry, and visual artistic texts.
  • Evaluate secondary materials such as scholarly works and literary criticisms.
  • Organize materials for future study.
  • Students will master and understand the significance of the writing process.

Intellectually equipped:

  • Demonstrate comprehension of a broad body of Historical, cultural and social knowledge.
  • Express ideas clearly in writing.

  • Work with classmates to research literarily criticisms and relevant background information.

  • Demonstrate use of technology based research present arguments and contextual information in a multimedia format.
  • Effectively use technology for the means of multimedia projects, presentations, composition and publishing.

  • Identify underrepresented viewpoints in a variety of literary genres.
  • Raise and explore questions about beliefs, actions and human nature in a cultural context.
