About the Project

Background of the Project

The campaign to raise funds for the renovation of St. Anthony High School’s Athletic Field is, at last, under way. The Building Our Future Campaign represents the beginning of a new era in our school’s long and storied history, as Long Beach’s only Catholic high school prepares to celebrate 100 years of service and impact.

This new major building project, the third in the history of our school, is launched after years of study, planning and preparation, and we believe the Saints Community is ready for the challenge.

Why are we doing this?

With an enrollment of 550 students and growing, with all students graduating, prepared for success in college and in life, the story of the Saints continues and you are a part of that legacy. Deeply rooted within the community we serve, St. Anthony High School today has an established reputation as a leader in Catholic education nationally. Today’s SAHS is known for its academic excellence, innovative curriculum and technology, faith and service to our community.

But in recent years the Saints have also re-established a reputation in athletics, winning dozens of League Championships, competing at CIF and State levels and bringing home new CIF Championships, in spite of the school’s aging athletic facilities.

At this time in our history, the challenge before us is the critical need to renovate the 9.5 acre property located on Clark Avenue that was designated from the start as St. Anthony High School’s Field, The Home of the Saints. This field, gifted to St. Anthony Parish in 1945, has been in continuous use since its opening in 1947. Those who have visited in recent years know that the property is in critical need of renovation to maintain a safe, competitive environment that serves both boys and girls athletics.

As St. Anthony High School’s largest classroom, the field property deserves nothing less, and we hope you will join us.

What does it entail?

The estimated cost of the overall project is $18M, but The Building Our Future Campaign has set a goal to raise $6,000,000 by September, 2019 to complete the first phase of this project. With this support in place, realized through the generosity of alumni and the support of our community, we hope to attract other major benefactors with matching potential who recognize the role of athletics in the life and growth of any high school hoping to remain competitive in today’s world.

When is this happening?

The first deadline in our timeline is September 30, 2019. This is the date that we need to raise $6,000,000 to pursue matching funds for Phase 1.

How can I help?

As we launch this great venture, we look first to those who know us best - our family and friends. We look to you – alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, coaches, parish and community partners and friends, businesses and philanthropic organizations. We ask your support.

This campaign represents a unique opportunity to build something together as we create a lasting legacy which will benefit both students and community for decades to come.

The reputation of the Saints, built since our founding in 1920, is fueled by our past and renewed each year through the lives and successes of our students, our graduates, and our greater Community of Saints.  This reputation is based on a strong and thriving learning community that is a beacon of faith, home and love for our entire community.

You can help by making a donation to The Building Our Future Campaign. In order to meet our $6,000,000 goal, we’ll need a $500 average donation per alum. Some of you may choose to contribute more than that by leaving your legacy and naming part of the athletic facility or buying a brick that will become part of the walkway into the complex. Others can become part of our Groundbreakers Club. Most may choose to make a direct donation. However you choose to give, please know that we appreciate the generosity and pride in building our future together.
