St. Anthony College Preparatory High School
Summer 2006

Dear Students, Parents, and Friends of Saint Anthony High School,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and peaceful spirits. It is not hard to feel
relaxed and at peace when summer comes around, as the hectic schedules of the school
year have slowed down and we are able to spend our time with family and friends,
enjoying the beauty of God’s world that surrounds us!
As you may know, there are many positive changes that are taking place on our campus, even as I write this letter. I’m looking out my window at the contractors who are surveying the courtyard in preparation for new asphalt. Exciting things are happening each and every day. I think you’ll be amazed at the progress that has occurred in such a short period of time when you step back onto campus in August.
Not only are there several changes taking place on the exterior but so much has already occurred on the interior. Last year the faculty and administration spent countless hours rewriting and redesigning our curriculum to better meet the needs of the students we serve. We think you will all agree that clearer and more rigorous academic standards along with opportunities for our students to fully participate in a faith-based college preparatory experience is one that will produce life long benefits.
At the year end parent meeting we had the opportunity to hear about some of the changes that took place within the PEP organization. Operating under new by-laws, this organization has a new President- Michael Brown, President-Elect-Vanessa Pruitt, and Secretary/Treasurer- Evy Cancel. Thank you to Clarisa Romero whose unequivocal dedication lead this organization to its strong present state. Some changes regarding parental participation were made and were discussed at the last meeting. If any parents have question about the guidelines, please feel free to contact the school for more information.
There are several other important changes that are taking place at St. Anthony High
School. Check out our restructured website at www.longbeachsaints.org. On it you’ll find
up to the minute information regarding school calendar, links to the parent/teacher
handbook, policy and procedural information and even some great news about our
faculty, staff, students and alumni! Thanks to President Gina Rushing and Development
Coordinator Christine Tucker for all of their hard work in developing this project!
Additionally, please remember that all families are expected to enroll in the Smart Tuition program for the 2006-2007 school year. If you have not already made arrangements or filled out the paperwork with our Business Manager, Lupe Rucker, please do so immediately. Your student will not be allowed to register for classes until all forms are completed.
Finally, on a more personal note, please spend the rest of the summer enjoying your time together. Spend some time every day talking and listening to your teenager— if he and/or she don’t share much…ask anyways. Whether they show it or not, they are listening and it does make a difference! Take a trip to the beach, catch a ball game, and attend mass together…as you know this time goes by so quickly and before you know it, your teenager will be graduating from high school and moving on to the next stage in their lives. Be positive and develop a healthy relationship with your child and keep in mind that the majority of what is learned in life takes place at home.
Thank you for all you do to teach your child the love of Christ and for supporting Saint Anthony College Preparatory High School in our mission to develop your teenager as a spiritually, morally, and intellectually sound individual. See you in a month!
God Bless,
Ms. Lori F. Barr
Principal
*Prayers are requested for Ms. Patty Redding, Registrar, and Mrs. Lori Walker, Academic Secretary. Both ladies are out on medical leave for the summer. Pray for their swift and uncomplicated recoveries and that they return to us in August in good health!
