Dr. Ed Lamoureux, Class of 1971
Ed Lamoureux is a professor at Bradley University in Peoria Illinois. He and his wife Cheryl moved there in 1985 and have been there ever since. After adding Alexander, Samantha, Kate, and Nicole they are a family of six.

At Bradley University (Peoria Illinois), Dr. Lamoureux has run the gamut - teaching, researching and publishing, topped off with a little administration. He has migrated from Speech to Multimedia, and loves every minute of it. Lamoureux is an innovative teacher who is now teaching a university class about the virtual world called “Second Life” in the virtual world. For more, take a look at the In The News article.
While he was at St. Anthony Ed played baseball, sang in Glee Club, and now asks why he was ever on the football field, but did some of that as well. His athletic highlight was when the Saints beat Bishop Amat 1-0 at Wardlow in `71. Ed tells it like this:
Engelke threw a shutout. I reached 1st on a hit batsman (that wasn't really a HB... that cracking sound for which the ump sent me to first was my ankle popping . . . I was never the same after that), stayed in and stole second, scored on a single by Bobby Hill”
When Ed recounts his most memorable moments at SA, two come to mind:
1- biology lab; the not-quite-dead-but-sliced-open-inadequately pithed-frog leaps up out of his/her tray and my good buddy Dr. Mike Esposito turns white as a sheet and almost leaves us (or maybe he did faint.... I was too busy laughing to be sure). Glad to see it didn't stop him from getting that medical degree anyway. But note: he's not a vet!
2- I gave the student speech at our graduation . . . the golden anniversary ceremony. Upon arriving at the podium, I was so nervous that I dropped/threw my carefully numbered note cards all over the place. Had to give the damn speech from memory. Managed it. I ended up with a Ph.D. in speech.... who knew?
When asked if there is any lessons learned that he would like to share about his SA High School experience, Ed said:
“Can't go back for a redo. But if I could, I'd make a WAY bigger effort to enjoy the time and be less frustrated over the girls I wanted to date but couldn't and, instead, spend more time with the people who were willing to be with me, whom I didn't hold closely enough at the time.”
“About all I took away is that I did better in school when I studied than when I didn't, cause I spent a lot of time there not studying enough, so didn't do as well as I should have.”
“But I do know this, the things that one DOESN'T learn in high school do count AGAINST YOU later. I didn't learn any math . . . so much for a career in science, engineering, or medicine. I didn't learn a foreign language, so much for passing on bilingualism to my kids.”
“I did, however, look really cool riding to school in Randy Borquez's Mustang, with the 4 track tape player.”
After graduating from St. Anthony College Prep, Ed received a baseball scholarship to University of Nevada at Reno, but it didn’t work out as the school fired the coach that had recruited him. Ed returned home after a semester and fought his way though LBCC for the next year and a half. Attended CSU, Long Beach and after 4 semesters on the honor roll graduated with a BA in speech. He went on to receive his MA in Speech Communications from Washington State University and earned his Ph.D. from University of Oregon in Rhetoric and Communications in 1985 studying conversation in retail service encounters for his dissertation.
In addition to being an innovative instructor, Ed is likely best known for editing the Journal of Communication and Religion two terms (6 years) and having highly ranked (by Google) websites about Rhetorical Theory & New Media Theory.
But his greatest accomplishment? He and Mrs. Lamoureux just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Ed says, “and we think we'll go for another round!”
