In August, 2001, Gina Rushing assumed responsibilities for marketing, communication, and development at St. Anthony College Preparatory High School.
In January 2002, she was appointed as the first President of the high school, which was founded in 1920 as Long Beach’s only Catholic high school, serving families seeking a values-based college preparatory education for their child.
As President, Gina serves as “the Chief Executive Officer of the Catholic school and bears the overall responsibility for the school’s operation and policies, concentrating primarily on its mission and Catholicity, finances, development and care of the physical facilities, fund-raising efforts, and promotional and public information. She fosters an atmosphere in which a community of faith can grow and maintains positive relations with pastors, parents, other schools, and the civic community. She delegates the ordinary operation of the school’s instructional programs to the Principal, and reports directly to the Regional Supervisor in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Department of Catholic Schools.” (St. Anthony College Preparatory High School Advisory Council Constitution and Bylaws)
The eight years prior to returning to St. Anthony in 2002, Gina was president of RHR Associates, Inc which provided marketing, public relations, organizational development and management services to a wide variety of businesses, not-for-profit, and non-profit organizations. With a specialization in corporate communications and business merger, acquisition, and turn-around strategic planning, typical clients were companies focused on image enhancement, growth, and market expansion through product branding. Clients spanned a variety of industries, from software and healthcare to manufacturing and non-profit organizations, including Wynne Systems, Inc., Command Packaging, Bay Harbor Hospital, Merit Abrasive Products, Etreby Computers, and the UAW-Labor Education Training Center. Prior to founding RHR Associates, Gina worked as the director of marketing fro firms in the heal care industry and managed public relations for a software firm.
Ms. Rushing has also been a force in the community. She is a founding member of Leadership Long Beach which focuses it efforts on developing and connecting principled leaders to strengthen the community. She has also held leadership positions with the Long Beach Public Corporation for the Arts, Junior LEague of Long beach, Woman to Woman Recovery Center, St. Barnabas Parish, Long Beach Rotary Club, and the Long beach League for the John Tracy Clinic.
Gina is a graduate of Holy Innocents Catholic Elementary School (1963), St. Anthony College Preparatory High School (1967), and California State University Long Beach (1973). At CSULB, she majored in journalism and anthropology, was a staff writer for the “49er” campus newspaper, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1973.
